For more than 30 years, Médecins du Monde, a campaigning medical organisation committed to international solidarity, has been caring for the most vulnerable populations at home and abroad. It has continued to highlight obstacles that exist in accessing health care and has secured sustainable improvements in health-for-all policies. Those working for this independent organisation do not solely dispense care and treatment but condemn violations of human dignity and rights and fight to improve matters for populations living in precarious situations. MdM currently works in 44 countries across all continents where it focuses on 4 priority areas: caring for the health of migrants and displaced persons, promoting sexual and reproductive health, harm reduction associated with drug use, emergencies and crisis.

MdM has been working in Lebanon for nearly 30 years and specifically on the response to the Syrian crisis since 2012. The goal of MdM in Lebanon is to offer care to Syrian refugees and vulnerable Lebanese affected by this crisis. Currently, primary healthcare services are provided through 4 partners in 5 primary healthcare centers (PHCCs) in the Bekaa. MdM is also providing mental health and psycho-social support (MHPSS) services to Syrian refugees and vulnerable Lebanese in 4 centers (Beirut, Central and West Bekaa). A research component is also implemented by the mission with a dedicated team, aiming to provide evidence-based and to contribute to improve practices in the MHPSS sector.







As mental health coordinator you work under the direct supervision of the deputy general coordinator and with the technical supervision of the regional MHPSS advisor, based in Amman; you also work closely with the medical coordinator in charge of the primary healthcare activities.




More in details your main responsabilities are to:

1. Program management and partners support

– Contribute to the development of MdM strategy with the coordination team
– Ensure the implementation, the quality and the consistence of the MHPSS component of the program with partners and MdM coordination team
– Propose and lead lesson-learning and evaluation dynamics, including development of tools and methodologies
– Develop, update and validate MHPSS standards, protocols and good practices
– Ensure that mental health components of the program are consistent and linked with the refugees’ and host populations’ needs, suggest any corrective measures to adapt the program if necessary
– Maintain and improve the current data collection system for mental health activities
– Co-operate with the MedCo, administration and logistics teams to ensure timely and quality supply of the programs needs in terms of HR and logistics, as well as finance

2. Team management

– Ensure the direct supervision of the MH program manager, the community mental health supervisor and the future MH trainer
– Support the MH Programme manager in the supervision of the case managers and psychotherapist team (13 staff)
– Provide technical support to the Medical and MHPSS team
– Organize and monitor the technical supervision of the psychotherapists and case managers of the research team
– Identify the needs of MHPSS staff for the program, draft their job profiles and organize their recruitment
– Participate in regular meetings with the medical and research teams

3. Capacity Building

In coordination with the deputy general coordinator and the medical coordinator:
– Ensure the implementation of a global training plan for all staff, including the partner’s staff whenever it is possible
– Ensure the technical supervision of all medical/MHPSS staff working for organizations and partners, and identify the needs for training/support
– Ensure the trainings are properly delivered by the team members, and contribute to it if necessary

4. Coordination with national and international partners

– Represent MdM in coordination meetings with local authorities and national/international health partners regarding mental health
– Represents MdM in coordination meetings, and actively participates to medical groups

5. Reporting

– Support the deputy general coordinator and the general coordinator in the monthly reporting and drafting proposal to potential donors
– Ensure the production of summaries and analysis of the data collected and compiled when required
– Work in close collaboration with the regional mental health coordinator to ensure coordination and information sharing with the Regional Office, Health and MHPSS referents at HQ.

2778 gross monthly salary on 13 months

Professional skills and experience required
Master degree in mental health or public health
Experience in leading MHPSS programs and activities
Experience of work in the Middle-East
Experience in negotiations with local authorities, partners and staff in difficult contexts is an asset
Ability to take effective decisions accordingly to the context
Ability to work in a volatile security context and to apply strict security rules
Ability to manage a team and work with partners in a multi-cultural setting
Ability to have a global overview of a program and long-term strategy

Personal skills and experience required
Reactivity, anticipation, adaptability, ability to take initiatives to changing requirements
Ability to take quick decisions accordingly to the context in coordination with the team
Good organizational skills, including time management, and rigor
