The purpose of this role is to oversee and coordinate sponsorship activities and ensure they are compliant to organizational policies & guidelines.

Dimensions of the Role

The Sponsorship Coordinator will supervise approximately 5 Sponsorship Officers and 2 Sponsorship Clerks.  The role will support the team in establishing long lasting relationships with National Offices, sponsors, sponsored families and other local implementation partners.  S/he will also oversee annual budget management of approximately KES.25 Million.

S/he will uphold Plan’s Core Values, promote Plan Purpose, programme principles (transparency, gender equality and diversity), to enhance programme impact.  Ensure modelling of Plan’s values and behaviours among all sponsorship staff and be committed to child protection and respect for human rights.

 

Accountabilities

  • Ensure compliance to sponsorship policies and guidelines.
  • Provide visionary leadership and support to sponsorship staff in the achievement of their departmental targets as well as in their individual development and performance.
  • Track and monitor 2-4 CBOs sub granted to support sponsorship activities and ensure a good performance is sustained.
  • Partnership building towards enhancing achievement of sponsorship Key Performance Indicators and sustainability of the program.
  • Identify capacity gaps for community volunteers, sponsorship staff & community based organizations and ensure they are addressed.
  • Coordinate sponsor visits at the PU in collaboration with National Offices to ensure the visits are successful and comply with Plan International policies.
  • Ensure sponsored children and families are effectively engaged & participate in sponsorship and program activities.
  • Effective communication with sponsorship partners and stakeholders to ensure efficient and effective sponsorship program.
  • Report progress, achievements and share lessons learnt in sponsorship program.
  • Monitor expenditure of approved sponsorship budget and revisit plans to ensure budget performance are within approved limits.
  • Generate monthly sponsorship reports for sharing and influencing programming at various levels.
  • Ensure existence of controls for proper risk management in sponsorship.
  • Enhance reporting and follow-up of child protection issues identified through sponsorship activities.
  • Ensures that Plan International’s global policies for Child Protection (CPP) and Gender Equality and Inclusion (GEI) are fully embedded in accordance with the principles and requirements of the policy including relevant Implementation Standards and Guidelines as applicable to their area of responsibility. This includes, but is not limited to, ensuring staff and associates are aware of and understand their responsibilities under these policies and Plan International’s Code of Conduct (CoC), their relevance to their area of work, and that concerns are reported and managed in accordance with the appropriate procedures.

Key relationships

The Sponsorship Coordinator reports to the Program Manager. S/he will also have regular contact with the Area Manager and Sponsorship Manager for technical support. The position acts as a medium level of external communication with local implementation partners, National Offices and Sponsors. The incumbent will also work closely with other team members in the Program Unit towards enhancing integration of sponsorship and program. S/he will closely monitor and enhance synergy of sponsorship and program towards fulfilment of the sponsorship commitments.

 

Technical expertise, skills and knowledge

 

Educational Qualification and Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree with in Social studies, Sociology or Community Development.
  • 3-5 years’ experience in sponsorship preferably in an NGO.
  • 2 years’ experience in managing a team.
  • 1 year of motorbike riding.
  • General knowledge and understanding of Kwale community will be an added advantage

 

Skills specific to the post

  • Basic computer literacy – working with MS Office
  • People skills (supervision, negotiation, facilitation, conflict resolution, influencing)
  • Report writing skills
  • Communication skills
